Job Description

This is a high school teaching position in Allied Health, which is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. The Allied Health program is a series of prescribed courses for grades 11-12 that provides a strong foundation in the health sciences. Participation in Allied Health prepares students for a variety of careers in healthcare and students may be eligible to obtain certifications and internships in many of the areas of Allied Health (e.g., Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Radiology, Nurse Assistant, etc.). Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is also an integral part of student success in Allied Health.

HINDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE Job Descriptions JOB TITLE: Secondary Health Science II Instructor REPORTS TO: Rankin Secondary Center Director DEPARTMENT: Office of Dual Enrollment EXEMPT: yes VICE PRESIDENT: VP of Career and Technical Education GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students. Teach the assigned classes of students according to the overall goals and objectives of the department, advancing the students’ knowledge of the subject matter. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Content Mastery Demonstrates strong knowledge of subject matter and the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, understandable instruction. Communication Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain concepts, provide constructive feedback, and interact professionally with students and colleagues. Classroom Management Ability to maintain an organized, respectful, and productive learning environment that supports student engagement and success. Technology Proficiency Ability to effectively utilize instructional technologies, learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), and industry-relevant tools to enhance learning. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field required; Registered Nurse (RN) or equivalent credential preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in healthcare required. Teaching experience and/or certification in healthcare instruction preferred. Additionally, candidates must meet all Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) certification and licensure requirements and demonstrate strong communication, organization, and instructional skills, along with a commitment to student success and career readiness. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices. Issue to students a course syllabus at the beginning of the semester and objective sheets for each unit of the course during the semester. Keep classes in session for the full scheduled time Set aside sufficient time for student conferences, guidance, and tutorial assistance. Keep prompt, up-to-date, accurate records of attendance, grades, and other reports. Work a minimum of 35 hours each week on campus during the fall and spring semesters and complete electronic timesheet monthly. Follow the required institutional process for recording student attendance and identifying “no-shows” in a timely manner. Participate in the establishment, assessment, and review of Student Learning Outcomes. Attend general faculty, division, and departmental meetings. Participate in student/teacher and faculty/administrator evaluations and performance review conferences. Meet reporting requirements of the Workforce, Career and Technical Education division of the Mississippi Community College Board. Develop a personal and professional improvement plan in those areas deemed necessary as a result of evaluations. Serve on committees as appointed. Participate in departmental meetings, formulation, execution, and evaluations of departmental goals and objectives. Cooperate in the execution of the college, division, and department policies. Recommend budgetary items and submit appropriate documentation for ordering items to the Dean’s or Director’s office. Participate in the selection of textbook and library materials. Participate in staff development activities, professional associations, presentations, publications, applied educational research, consulting, evaluations, and similar activities which enhance the individual and the education profession. Use teaching techniques that include the effective utilization of resources that motivate students to achieve their potential. Assume responsibility for inventory, care, and maintenance of instructional equipment and supplies. Present a personal appearance in keeping with contemporary community standards for a professional person. Maintain current credentials and certifications as required in respective field. Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate authority.
