About the role

The lecturer will instruct high school level algebra courses and focus on topics ranging from number theory to complex numbers. They will work closely with the Upward Bound Director to support student success and maintain program operations.

As the Non-Credit Lecturer for Algebra you will need to think creatively and be comfortable working with a diverse student population.

You will be an active member of the Upward Bound team and will work closely with the Director to teach various courses of the subject.

You will thrive in this role if you like combining your teaching experience and excellent communication skills all while, propelling students towards success.

To be successful in this role, you must be detail-oriented, creative, and have strong interpersonal skills.

Your normal hours will be Saturday's 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true non-credit lecturer.

This is a temporary grant funded role from August 29th, 2026, to May 8th, 2027.

The role is continually contingent upon this grant funding.

When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the Upward Bound operations humming.

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties) Instruct courses in high school level pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II Focus on problem solving, number theory, intro to functions and modeling, systems of equations and matrices, exponential and logarithmic functions, linear inequalities in two variables, fractions, linear equations and inequalities, exponents, radicals and complex numbers, nonlinear equations and inequalities.

What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications) Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or Secondary Education and related field.

Master’s degree preferred Prior experience in TRIO Upward Bound or similar program preferred.

Experience with local school districts preferred.

Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.

Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
