  • Position: This position supports First-Gen Programs within Student Success Initiatives and University College by assisting in the development, coordination, and implementation of programs and services designed to advance the success of first-generation college students. This position supports initiatives funded in part through the U.S. Department of Education Title III Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) grant and helps maintain the First-Gen Den community space in the FLITE building. In this role, the student serves as a program representative and campus resource liaison, connecting first-generation students to campus resources, academic expectations, and college life while fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment that promotes engagement, persistence, and student success.

1. Undergraduate student at Ferris State University 2. Must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 or higher at the time of application and should be maintained throughout employment 3. Must have at least Sophomore status at the time of application 4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills which includes oral, electronic, and traditional documentation 5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment 6. Have a strong understanding of, or identifies as, a first-generation college student 7. Basic functional understanding of the Navigate360 student success software platform as well as Microsoft Office suite 8. Schedule-able hours are weekdays (M-F) from 11:00am and 3:00pm with some evening and weekend hours possible

You will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement prior to being employed.

It is required that Human Resources obtain and review a background report to due to the sensitive nature of your position. You will be asked to complete an authorization form for obtaining a background report.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • 1. Assist in the planning, development and implementation of First-Gen Programs and resources 2. Work collaboratively within Student Success Initiatives, First-Gen Programs and campus partners and stakeholders 3. Uphold program rules and university policies to ensure the safety and well-being for all students 4. Work with Student Success and First-Gen staff to foster a positive and inclusive community 5. Provide front-line support and service to all visitors in the First-Gen Den (FLITE Building 119) 6. Help coordinate logistics of First-Gen Program events and other learning opportunities 7.
