About the role

The Intervention Specialist provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities through both push-in and pull-out models. They collaborate with general education teachers to ensure meaningful access to the curriculum while maintaining compliance with IEP goals and documentation.

The Kindergarten–5th Grade Intervention Specialist is responsible for providing specialized instruction, intervention, and support to students with disabilities and other students requiring individualized academic and behavioral support.

Working within an inclusive school environment, the Intervention Specialist collaborates closely with general education teachers, families, administrators, and related service providers to ensure students have meaningful access to grade-level curriculum and opportunities for success.

This position requires a strong commitment to communication, collaboration, inclusion, and shared responsibility for student achievement.

The Intervention Specialist will provide services through both push-in support within general education classrooms and pull-out small-group instruction, based on individual student needs and service requirements.

Essential Responsibilities Instruction and Student Support Provide specially designed instruction to students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Deliver individualized and small-group intervention based on student needs, IEP goals, progress-monitoring data, and classroom performance.

Provide pull-out services for students requiring targeted, intensive, or individualized instruction in a small-group setting.

Provide push-in services within general education classrooms to support students in accessing grade-level instruction.

Co-teach and collaborate with general education teachers using effective inclusive instructional practices.

Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate accommodations and modifications to support student learning.

Use a variety of instructional strategies to address academic, behavioral, communication, and functional needs.

Monitor student progress and adjust instruction and interventions based on data.

Collaboration and Communication Maintain consistent, proactive communication with general education teachers regarding student needs, progress, accommodations, and instructional strategies.

Participate in regular co-planning with general education teachers to support inclusive instruction and student success.

Collaborate with teachers to identify barriers to learning and develop strategies to support students within the general education environment.

Share responsibility for student progress and actively contribute to classroom instruction and intervention planning.

Communicate professionally and effectively with families, administrators, related service providers, and other members of the educational team.

Participate actively in team meetings, grade-level meetings, IEP meetings, and other collaborative planning opportunities.

Build positive, professional relationships with students, staff, and families.

Special Education Compliance and Documentation Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with fidelity.

Develop and maintain accurate progress-monitoring data aligned with student IEP goals.

Complete required special education documentation, including progress reports and other compliance-related records, within established timelines.

Maintain appropriate documentation of interventions and services provided.

Participate in the evaluation and reevaluation process by collecting and providing relevant student data.

Ensure accommodations and modifications are communicated and implemented consistently across educational settings.

Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with applicable laws and school policies.

Inclusive Practices Promote an inclusive school culture in which students with disabilities are active members of the general education community.

Support students in accessing grade-level curriculum alongside their peers whenever appropriate.

Use push-in and co-teaching models to maximize student participation in the general education setting.

Collaborate with general education teachers to create classrooms that support diverse learning needs.

Encourage student independence, self-advocacy, and meaningful participation in classroom activities.

Qualifications

Valid Intervention Specialist or Special Education teaching license appropriate for Kindergarten through 5th grade, in accordance with state requirements. Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; master’s degree preferred. Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, IEP requirements, and best practices. Experience or demonstrated ability to provide both small-group intervention and inclusive classroom support. Strong understanding of differentiated instruction, progress monitoring, and data-driven decision-making. Work Environment The Intervention Specialist will work across multiple educational settings, including general education classrooms and designated intervention spaces. The position requires flexibility in scheduling and service delivery to ensure students receive appropriate support through a combination of push-in co-teaching, classroom support, and pull-out small-group instruction.

Requirements
