The Childcare Specialist provides support and direction for educational and recreational activities while ensuring the safety and development of club members. TITLE: Childcare Specialist

Department: Operations

Reports to: Daycare Director

Status: ❒ Exempt ❒ Non-Exempt

Primary function

Childcare specialist provides support and direction for activities provided within a specifically-focused program area, such as Education, Special Education, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, and Physical Education.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities)

  • 1.
  • Enforces the development of appropriate daycare-related policies.
  • 2.
  • Creates engaging and enriching lesson plans for age-appropriate programming.
  • 3.
  • Transports club members in club vehicles during school year and summer camp.
  • 4.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all members participating in club programming.
  • 5.
  • Enforces policies set by state licensing agency.
  • 6.
  • Assist with other duties as requested by the Daycare Director.
  • 7.
  • Able to pass all background checks required by the Department of Education 8.
  • Provide guidance and act as a role model/mentor to assure conduct, safety and development of all members 9.
  • Help maintain facilities and equipment to ensure a productive and clean work environment, reporting major issues to supervisor.
  • 10.
  • Maintain close professional contact with all staff members, supervisor, and volunteers to communicate on Club operations and the needs of members.
  • 11.
  • Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, and quality.in programs and appearance of the branch at all times.
  • 12.
  • Supervise club members to ensure continuous sight, sound and supervision.

Qualifications

Childcare Specialist shall be at least 18 years of age, have fulfilled a high school program completion or the equivalent, and meet one of the following:

1. Have an endorsement or bachelor's degree in a child-related field such as, but not limited to, elementary education, nursing, or recreation, from a college or university. 2. Have three months of programmatic experience and at least one of the following education backgrounds:

a. A one-year early childhood certificate from a college or university that consists of at least 30 semester hours. b. A child development credential by an organization listed in § 22.1-289.048 of the Code of Virginia. c. A teaching diploma from an internationally or nationally recognized Montessori organization; or

  • 3.
  • Have six months of supervised programmatic experience.
  • 4.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, interviewing, and listening skills.
  • 5.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • 6.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications preferred.
  • 7.
  • Ability to deal effectively with diverse groups of parents and children.
