About the role

The instructional aide will support classroom teachers in prekindergarten through first grade by assisting with instruction, small group work, and student supervision. They are also responsible for maintaining classroom materials, performing clerical tasks, and providing for the basic needs of students.

Job Overview The Aide Instructional-ELC will assist students and the classroom teacher in grades prekindergarten, kindergarten or first grade (Bilingual or Monolingual) by performing related tasks and supporting classroom instruction under the direct supervision of the teacher, building administrator, or appropriate supervisor. Position DescriptionThe Aide Instructional ELC 210 will assist students and the classroom teacher in grades prekindergarten, kindergarten or first grade (Bilingual or Monolingual) by performing related tasks and supporting classroom instruction under the direct supervision of the teacher, building administrator, or appropriate supervisor. Essential

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide instructional support for the classroom teacher Work with individual students and/or small groups to reinforce skills introduced by the teacher Assist with record keeping, preparation and development of instructional materials and other classroom tasks Provide coverage for the classroom teacher when necessary Operate a variety of classroom instructional equipment, including but not limited to computers, audio/visual and video equipment Work cooperatively with substitute teachers in providing instruction and assistance to students Participate in various committees and attend required campus and/or district meetings Assist with supervision of students before, during, and after school on the playground, lunchroom and during any school-sponsored activity occurring during the school day Perform housekeeping chores such as, sanitizing student work areas and instructional materials Provide for basic needs of students who are not able to care for themselves including but not limited to toileting and feeding Attend required continuing professional education courses, implement strategies, and receive in-class coaching with a master teacher (30-hour minimum of professional development) Perform clerical tasks such as typing correspondence, copying materials, etc. Assist in the safe and orderly movement of all students to and from the classroom Support students through the implementation of 504 or Individualized Education Plans (IEP) Supervisory Responsibilities None

Qualification Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. Minimum of 48 college hours or passing score on the Para Professional Assessment of Knowledge Texas Educational Aide Certification Preferred or required to obtain once hired Child Development Associate credential preferred Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing in all interactions with students and adults Experience working with elementary age children and knowledge of the learning process preferred Flexibility and adaptability working among grade levels and with diverse groups of young students Ability to pivot to other duties as assigned by campus administrator Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Attendance at conferences and professional development is required.
  • Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties.
  • May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
