About the role

The physical therapist will provide itinerant educational physical therapy services to students ranging from preschool to age 21. They will collaborate with school staff and the IEP committee to assess students and implement integrated intervention programs.

This position is a 1.0 FTE for the 2026/27 School Year.

Responsibilities

  • Function as an itinerant clinician to provide appropriate “educational model” physical therapy service for identified students.
  • Collaborate with teachers and school staff to provide integrated programs for identified students
  • Assess and evaluate students with disabilities, interpret results, and plan for appropriate intervention services in collaboration with the IEP Committee.
  • Interpret the role of therapeutic intervention within the educational setting to educational personnel, administrators, parents, student and community members.
  • Willing to work with student’s preschool-age through 21 years of age, with a variety of disabilities.
  • Willing to collaborate with regular and special education teachers to provide integrated educational programming.
  • Willing to participate in clinical training of physical therapy students.
  • Experience
  • Experience in public school system physical therapy program or pediatrics.
  • Familiarity with physical therapy assessments appropriate for school age children and pertinent to the educational environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (in writing and orally) with educational personnel, administrators, parents, students, and community members.

Qualifications

  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure.
  • Minimum level of education is a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy, including clinical training, from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have passed the physical therapy licensure examination and hold a current Virginia license to practice as issued by the Virginia Board of Medicine.
  • Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area, is preferred but not required.
