They are also responsible for maintaining documentation, tracking attendance, and facilitating communication between the school, families, and the community.

Middle School Counselor Classification Exempt, 10-Month Employee Reports to Middle School Principal Overview Dr.

Richard Izquierdo Health and Science Charter School is seeking a certified/licensed School Counselor to support and educate our middle school students.

Under the general supervision of the Middle School Principal, the school counselor works with students to develop and implement plans around academic and social-emotional success.

School counselors work with the school community, including scholars, families, staff, and school leadership to advocate for programs and services that positively impact scholar academic success in alignment with New York State.

The counselor is responsible for one grade level of students and is part of a robust mental health and counseling team at the school.

General Responsibilities The school counselor supervises students in the areas of social-emotional and academic counseling for a specific grade level, working as part of a larger mental health team to support the students Work collaboratively with the clinical social work team to respond to crises and provide individualized support plans Develop and implement individualized academic plans for all students on your caseload Provide support to students struggling with peer relationships, coping strategies, and effective social skills Conduct group or individual counseling sessions, both mandated and unmandated, and submit all required notes and documentation by the required deadlines Effectively conduct crisis intervention and social-emotional assessments Contribute to improving student attendance by conducting wellness calls, tracking attendance parent meetings and maintain focus on increased graduation rates Assess and refer students for multi-tiered level support Ability to leverage resources to comply with the school counseling program (PowerSchool and SESIS) Engage and collaborate with colleagues and the community to develop and sustain a common culture that supports high expectations for student learning Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents Cooperate with parents and teachers as well as other interested parties Facilitate access to community resources Integrate into the established policies and culture of the department Other duties as assigned Professional Expectations Uphold the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) professional standards Highly organized, motivated, self-driven team player Work effectively with staff, scholars, and the community Organize tasks, set priorities and meet policies and deadlines Respond appropriately to evaluation and changes in the work setting Willingness to learn and grow professionally Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent punctuality and attendance at work

Qualifications

Masters in School Counseling or Social Work from an accredited institution required New York State certification required Fluent in Spanish required 3 to 5 years of demonstrated success working in urban school settings- preferred Supervisory Responsibilities None Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time 10-month position. This is an On-Site position; no hybrid or remote. The regular hours and workdays are Monday through Friday, 7:55 am to 3:55 pm in addition to any special events to which all staff are expected to attend.

Salary Range

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in School Counseling or Social Work and possess a valid New York State certification. Fluency in Spanish is required, and 3 to 5 years of experience in an urban school setting is preferred.
