Description Substitute Teacher Columbus School for Girls (CSG) is an independent day school in Columbus, Ohio, founded in 1898, serving diverse students in pre-k through grade 12.

CSG empowers girls to discover their distinct potential as learners and leaders.

As a leader in the education of girls and young women, CSG is a vibrant community of more than 560 students, 135 faculty and staff, and 2,500 active alumnae.

CSG’s 8-acre academic campus in the beautiful Bexley neighborhood is a ten-minute drive from downtown Columbus, a city bustling with artistic, civic, and shopping experiences.

Having just completed a strategic plan to guide the School’s direction over the next several years, CSG offers an exceptional, student-centered academic experience with strong offerings in the arts, an impressive athletic program, and a health and wellness curriculum that is unique in Central Ohio.

This combination of academics and skills ensures that CSG students will be well prepared for life beyond CSG.

Columbus School for Girls seeks dependable, flexible, and student-centered substitute teachers to support classrooms across the school, from the Program for Young Children through Upper School.

Substitute teachers play an important role in maintaining continuity of learning and creating a positive, safe, and welcoming environment when a classroom teacher is absent.

The successful substitute teacher will build positive relationships with students, follow the plans and routines established by the classroom teacher, maintain high expectations for learning and behavior, and contribute to a school community in which every student feels known, valued, and capable.

Major Functions and Responsibilities

  • Promote a love of reading and learning in all students Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction that empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information Participate actively in the life of the school, including leading clubs and/or activities, chaperoning school trips, and possibly coaching Work with faculty to effectively integrate technology into the curriculum, including co-teaching as needed. Evaluate, promote, and use existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning. Manage library outreach efforts, including visiting authors, book clubs, and partnerships with other libraries and agencies.

  • Qualities: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred Strong candidates will possess an MLIS or similar degree/certification and experience in independent schools and/or libraries An understanding of the value of an all-girls education and the eagerness to learn about the best ways to help young women of promise reach their full potential as learners and leaders Excellent communication skills, a genuine appreciation of adolescents, a sense of humor, and the ability to work well within a diverse, collaborative environment Familiarity with current Young Adult (YA) and middle grade literature Experience with technology integration that supports teaching and learning as well as social media experience Physical Demands:

The physical demands include being able to sit, talk, hear, stand; use hand to finger, handle, or feel; and reach hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
