- About JerseySTEM All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.
- Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership.
- K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.

- This role focuses on building strong relationships, improving the member experience, and ensuring volunteers feel informed, valued, and aligned with JerseySTEM’s mission.
Responsibilities
Design member engagement strategies to increase volunteer satisfaction, retention, and long-term commitment Serve as the main point of contact for members experience and engagement initiatives Run regular engagement touchpoints such as onboarding sessions, check-ins, feedback loops, and community meetings Partner with department heads to ensure consistent communication and engagement practices across teams Identify engagement risks (disengagement, burnout, drop-off) and proactively address them Promote a culture of belonging, transparency, collaboration, and appreciation Develop engagement programs, rituals, and recognition initiatives Collect feedback from members and translate insights into actionable improvements Ensure engagement documentation, guidelines, and best practices are clearly defined and shared
Qualifications
2+ years of experience with engagement projects Excellent communication skills, written and verbal Highly organized, proactive, and people-oriented Ability to influence without authority and collaborate across departments Sense of urgency and ownership: engagement issues are addressed quickly Experience in HR, People Operations, Community Management, or Volunteer Management is a plus Commitment: 6 hours per week for 6 months. This is a pro-bono position.
