  • We’re looking for dependable, high-energy team players to serve as Substitute Counselors — the ultimate game-changers of our camp community.
  • This isn’t your average camp counselor position.
  • You’ll be the steady presence that keeps the fun flowing and the schedule running smoothly when other counselors take well-deserved time off.
  • Your flexibility, timeliness, and positive attitude will make you an essential part of our summer success.
  • Spend the summer leading games, guiding swim time, helping with arts and crafts, supporting education activities, and making sure every camper feels safe, included, and inspired at Camp Tracy ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for a group of children, helping each child adjust and grow with other children within the program guidelines.
  • Assist with all camp activities and other activities as assigned.
  • Follow all program procedures and guidelines in conjunction with the YMCA Day Camp Tracy standard operating procedures Demonstrate willingness to participate in all areas of Camp Tracy programming.
  • Complies with and participates fully in the instruction of swimming, arts and crafts, games, various camp activities, and education programs.
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill level), and provide necessary instruction to children.
  • Ability to observe camper behavior and assess its appropriateness, enforce relevant safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Must be 16 years or older, with a high-school diploma (or in-progress) First-aid & CPR preferred (or willingness to obtain) EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 1 years experience working with children SKILLS & COMPETENCIES: Scheduling flexibility & timeliness is a must. Communication skills Ability, desire, and skills to work with children Team player Display role model behavior Organizational skills Attention to details Critical thinking Adaptability WORK SCEHDULE: Seasonal / Camp runs all day Monday-Friday. Weekly schedule is subject to change based on the time-off schedules of full-time camp staff.
