The Licensed Practical Nurse supports patient care by assisting providers in all clinical practice aspects, including collecting vital signs, administering medications, assisting with procedures, and providing patient education. Duties also involve maintaining accurate documentation, serving as a liaison between physician and patient, and managing clinical supplies and cleanliness.
Candidates must have completed an accredited LPN program and hold a current LPN license, along with a High School diploma or equivalent and BLS/CPR certification. Prior experience in an outpatient clinic or large physician group is preferred, and proficiency with EMR systems and strong communication skills are necessary.
Take patient history and vital signs (TPR, BP, height/weight). Assist with exams, minor surgeries, and procedures. Administer injections and medications as ordered. Perform point-of-care tests (e.g., pregnancy, urine, strep, mono, hemoccult). Conduct venipuncture and perform PT/INR monitoring. Prepare and maintain clean, stocked exam and treatment rooms. Educate patients on treatment plans, medication use, chronic condition management and follow-up care. Relay test results, referrals, and instructions from physicians. Call in prescriptions and refills as directed. Document care, assessments, procedures, and education in EMR. Review and update patient charts. Triage patient calls and follow up as needed. Fulfill insurance pre-certification requirements. Maintain pharmacy and sample medication inventory and logs. Order and restock medical and laboratory supplies. Autoclave instruments and maintain lab cleanliness. Support educational training of Family Medicine residents.
Education & Experience Completion of accredited LPN program and current LPN license. High School diploma or equivalent. BLS/CPR certification required. Prior experience in outpatient clinic or large physician group preferred. Experience in Family Medicine, pediatrics, or chronic disease management beneficial. Clinical skills: injections, venipuncture, EKGs, spirometry, sterile technique, nebulizer use. Proficiency with EMR systems and medical office equipment. Strong communication and patient education abilities. Adaptability to sudden changes, emergencies, or high patient volume. Team-oriented mindset with a compassionate, professional demeanor.
