Job description

  • The Teresa B. Caine School of Nursing at High Point University seeks a full-time faculty member for our Adult Health (Medical-Surgical) Nursing courses. The ideal candidate will bring strong teaching and clinical expertise to support student success initiatives across the pre-licensure BSN curriculum. This position requires flexibility for evening and weekend teaching and clinical supervision as needed, along with participation in university service activities. The faculty member will teach Adult Health (Medical-Surgical) Nursing courses along with foundational nursing support courses including health assessment, pharmacology, and other core curriculum components under the Dean's guidance. Key responsibilities include direct clinical practicum supervision, clinical skills laboratory instruction, simulation-based learning facilitation, classroom teaching, and development of course assessments aligned with Next Generation NCLEX-RN standards. Additional duties encompass participation in service activities, student recruitment, academic advising, and mentorship of current and prospective students. Candidates must demonstrate exceptional teaching capabilities and substantial clinical background in medical-surgical nursing, with commitment to innovative nursing education and student success. Qualifications Education: Minimum: Master’s degree in nursing education or equivalent from an accredited institution Preferred: Doctorate degree in nursing or equivalent from an accredited institution Experience: Three or more years of clinical expertise as an RN in a medical-surgical/ adult health nursing practice area Familiarity with simulation education in medical-surgical/adult health nursing Three or more years of teaching (classroom and clinical) in a BSN level educational program or higher (course coordination or lead faculty role strongly preferred) Licensure:
  • Unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina (or eligible) BSN Faculty Responsibilities Didactic and clinical instruction across the nursing curriculum using evidence-based methodology Recruitment, advisement, and academic mentorship of potential and actual students Service on university and departmental committees Engagement in scholarship or creative works, and service-related activities Leading hands-on (direct) clinical practicums Maintaining the nursing clinical skills lab, simulation suites, classrooms, etc. Assisting with maintaining inventory for the clinical skills lab and simulation suites Additional duties as assigned Essential Knowledge Familiarity with North Carolina Board of Nursing’s regulations and standards Familiarity with accreditation standards and curriculum development (CCNE preferred) Familiarity with NCLEX-RN Test Plan and Next Generation NCLEX Clinical practice background in medical-surgical nursing/adult health nursing Familiarity with education principles and standards for professional nursing practice at the BSN level or above Fosters the development and delivery of “best practices” and evidence-based practice” with respect to technology and pedagogical principles Essential Skills Electronic test development using the Next Generation NCLEX-RN format A record of scholarship to meet the desired academic rank (i.e., instructor, assistant professor, or associate professor) Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) CPR certified Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, collaborative, team building, and communication skills (written and oral) Student-centered Demonstrated commitment to multiculturalism in all settings Ability To Work as a team; good time-management skills; good interpersonal/human relations skills Communicate effectively orally, in writing and through technology Track inventory Follow instructions as well as take initiatives Adapt to change in a progressive environment of constant change Embrace working in an interdisciplinary atmosphere Attend offsite clinical practicum sites for direct clinical instruction For more information regarding this position, please contact Dr. Racquel Ingram, Founding Dean, School of Nursing at ringram1@highpoint.edu.
