Job Description

Summary Dual Credit Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the on-going development of instructional strategies that promote student success. They are responsible for teaching Fox Valley Technical College courses at their high school. Well-prepared and highly motivated high school students who successfully complete the course earn college credits. This collaboration between the College and its high school partners offers instructors at both institutions an opportunity to enrich their professional experience while helping students become career and college ready.

Instructors are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned. Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in-person, virtual, and on-line course delivery. Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning, and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence. Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation. Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the department and K12 Partnerships office, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives. Comply with program area requirements related to course content, course competencies, course rigor, textbooks, assessments, etc. Proactively promote the College and our programs. Student Success & Support – Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful. Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and current employment in the field. Maintain DPI licensure.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Requirements: Qualifications vary depending on the discipline. Prior to applying, please navigate to the Early College Credit Guide for additional requirements specific to each course. If you would like to talk to a content expert prior to applying, a contact list can also be found on this page. Please be aware that minimum qualifications for consideration are noted, and all applicants go through a complete review process. Employed as a K-12 teacher within the agreed upon school district. Associate degree or the degree/licensure level at which the dual credit instructor is teaching. General Studies courses: Master’s degree or higher, in the discipline or subfield. OR Master’s degree or higher in a different discipline plus 18 or more graduate credits in the discipline or subfield. OR Master’s degree or higher in a different discipline plus a DPI license in the discipline or subfield. Occupational courses: Degree or licensure at the level being taught (Bachelor’s degree preferred). Course-based certification through the respective FVTC academic unit. All dual credit instructor approvals are limited to specific dual credit courses. Minimum of two (2) years full-time (or 4,000 total hours if part-time) of occupational experience in a target job for the program or programs being taught. One year (or 2,000 hours) shall be within five (5) years prior to the date of appointment. One year (or 2,000 hours) may be waived for occupational instructors with at least two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within five (5) years prior to the date of appointment. The Instructional Leader may consider related/equivalent coursework, Department of Public Instruction credentials, occupational experience and subject matter expertise when evaluating dual credit qualifications and may consider an exception to the experience requirement due to limited, provisional dual credit instructional course approval and education specific training related to DPI licensure. Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements: High School teachers must hold a current DPI license. (Required at time of application) Any additional certifications if applicable. Proficiency utilizing learning management system. Strong verbal communication skills. Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs. Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences. Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods. Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, including learner-centered instruction, assessment, evaluation and collaborative techniques and strategies that address closing the gap in student access and achievement across race, gender and disability. In evaluating candidates for this position, Fox Valley Technical College may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position. Physical Requirements Mobility: The ability to move around the classroom or instructional space, including walking between students’ desks or workstations. Standing and Sitting: The capability to stand for extended periods during lectures or demonstrations, as well as the ability to sit for grading, office hours, and administrative tasks. Lifting and Carrying: Depending on the subject matter, instructors may need to lift and carry teaching materials, equipment, or props that could weigh up to 50 pounds. Speech and Hearing: Clear speech and the ability to hear students' questions and interactions are essential for effective instruction. Fine Motor Skills: Precise hand movements or manual dexterity for activities such as writing on a whiteboard, demonstrating experiments, or using instructional technology like computers. Visual Acuity: Adequate vision to read course materials, assess student work, and operate instructional equipment. Health and Safety: Instructors should be capable of ensuring a safe learning environment, which may involve understanding and adhering to safety protocols, responding to emergencies, and addressing any physical hazards in the instructional space. Repetitive Motions: Capacity to perform repetitive motions, such as typing, without discomfort or injury.

Clear verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with employees, candidates, and stakeholders, both in-person and through electronic means. Work Environment Work is typically performed in a classroom. Work is also performed online in a learning management system. Work is typically performed during the day.
