Purpose of the Role

  • The purpose of this position is to ensure that students with documented learning needs receive appropriate, consistent, and effective academic support and accommodations. Through collaboration, advocacy, and education, this position strengthens the school’s capacity to support diverse learners and fosters an inclusive academic environment where all students can thrive.

Salary Range: (California Pay Transparency Requirement)

$65,000-$106,500 USD

*Final compensation within this range will be determined based on the candidate’s years of relevant experience, education, internal equity considerations and organizational needs. Please note that compensation will be prorated based on the employee’s date of hire and Department of Labor (DOL) classification, including but not limited to full-time, part-time, exempt, or non-exempt status. All compensation is subject to applicable deductions and withholdings in accordance with federal, state, and local laws. Essential

Duties & Responsibilities

Student support

  • This includes, but is not limited to the following:
  • Reviewing psycho-educational evaluations to assist in developing individual Accommodations Plans for students with documented eligibility
  • Conducting 1:1 check-ins with individual students to monitor academic progress as well as to assist in prioritizing assignments (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly as determined by need)
  • Scheduling and proctoring assessments for those students eligible for extended time on assessments
  • Acting as the liaison between parents/guardians, students, and teachers to ensure that student accommodations are being followed as intended
  • Maintaining confidential records of students with documented learning challenges
  • Serving as the SSD Coordinator between the school and CollegeBoard.
  • Connecting with all new families whose children meet Providence’s documented eligibility for accommodations

Teacher support

• Providing Professional Development –

  • 1. creating and presenting professional development on a variety of topics, not limited to topics regarding neurodivergence 2. enlisting the expertise of allied professionals knowledgeable in specific relevant fields to present to our faculty and staff
  • Maintaining continuous contact and assistance with teachers regarding specific students
  • Assisting teachers to better understand various students’ challenges and how these challenges impact student performance and behavior

Parent/Guardian support

  • Guiding parents/guardians through the evaluation process either within the private sector or the public school system
  • Meeting with parents/guardians to demystify their students’ learning challenges, to discuss their students’ academic progress and success, and to suggest the need for educational assessment
  • Prior to the beginning of the school year as part of the onboarding process, speaking with parents/guardians of incoming students who meet documented eligibility

Allied professionals

  • Acting as liaison between allied professionals, school district personnel, parents/guardians (sending transcripts, arranging for on-campus visitations, tracking teacher completion of questionnaires)
  • Maintaining relationships and communicating with allied professions such as educational psychologists, educational therapists, psychotherapists
  • Additional responsibilities
  • As a member of the Counseling Department, attending Departmental meetings, Student Success Team meetings, and Personal Support meetings
  • Constant coordination with counselors about students on mutual caseloads

Provide input to the Admissions Committee regarding potential students

Required

It is preferred that applicants have teaching experience and a bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field. A master’s degree and/or Educational Therapist certification or coursework is preferred.

Candidates preferably have experience serving as a learning specialist in a high school. It is also preferred that candidates have experience reviewing psychoeducational testing, developing student accommodation plans, and tracking progress over time. This role will also lead professional development for teachers to support student learning and potentially small groups of students in workshop format.

The candidate should be a self-starter, very knowledgeable in his/her teaching field, flexible, and passionate about educating young adults. The candidate should be a skilled communicator in guiding the student support team towards determining shared goals: students, parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, administration, and outside experts. The candidate should be committed to developing and practicing cultural competence in their role.
