Responsibilities
The successful candidate will: Teach undergraduate courses in Spanish, which may include Elementary Spanish I & II, Intermediate Spanish I & II, Advanced Spanish Conversation and Composition, Spanish for the Professions, and upper-level courses in Hispanic literature, culture, or linguistics aligned with the candidate's area of specialization Develop students' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through communicative, student-centered approaches Foster cultural awareness and appreciation of the diverse Spanish-speaking world Provide academic mentoring and professional guidance to support student language development and intercultural competence Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, assessment practices aligned with ACTFL proficiency guidelines, and continuous program improvement Actively participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including support for cultural programming and study abroad initiatives Engage in ongoing scholarship and professional development to maintain disciplinary currency and pedagogical effectiveness Report to the Department Chair or designated administrator and contribute to departmental goals QualificationsRequired Qualifications Master's degree in Spanish, Hispanic Linguistics, Hispanic Literature, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution Native or near-native fluency in Spanish with excellent command of both oral and written communication Demonstrated ability or strong potential to deliver effective, student-centered instruction across multiple proficiency levels Strong commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment that values linguistic and cultural diversity Willingness to engage collaboratively in curriculum review and departmental initiatives
