Position Title
Assistant Teacher Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Lead Teacher and the Director, the Assistant Teacher assists the Lead Teacher in planning and facilitating activities for children ages 2-5 years and/or school-age children. The Assistant is responsible for the overall supervision and daily class functionality as well as supporting the emotional wellbeing of the students.
Job Description
Student/Customer Service - 90% Leads children’s group games, songs, stories, movement, trips, projects, activities, and discussions as planned with the Lead Teacher. Assists Lead Teacher in developing and implementing large group, small group, and individual children’s activities as instructed. Assists the Lead Teacher with assessments, assist in implementing lesson plans , and maintaining daily classroom schedules. Communicates positively with every child at the child’s level of understanding. Assists students with assignments or difficult concepts With the Lead Teacher, plans and implements circle times, projects, as well as, a portfolio for each child. Brings questions, concerns, or conflicts directly to the attention of the Lead Teacher and/or Director. Participates in, shares during, and/or prepares for classroom and center staff meetings, family meetings, family conferences, or center promotional activities as necessary or assigned. Greets parents in a warm, friendly, and interested manner; responds to inquiries in a helpful, positive manner. Maintains an awareness of children’s developmental progress and group processes and communicates anecdotes/impressions daily to the Lead Teacher II and monthly to the Director. Monitors the on-going health and safety of all assigned children. Supports each child’s social, emotional and intellectual growth and development. Department Operations/Procedures - 5% Adheres to and enforces classroom rules, as well as procedures and policies established by the Lead Teacher II and the Director. Routinely straightens, cleans, and organizes all toys, equipment, shelving as well as all activity and eating areas. Other - 5% Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to pass the Department of Children and family Services Background check. Provide a physical screening with a TB test. CPR/ First Aid Certification. Food Service Certification. Gateways registry membership. Desired Qualifications Previous experience working with children and knowledge of child development (growth). Some course work in early childhood education. An Associate's degree in ECE, or 12 credit hours in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, Elementary Education, or ECE Special Education. Bilingual in Spanish and English. Work Schedule: The typical schedule is 12:00–5:00 p.m., with flexibility to vary between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. as needed.
