Job Description: Open-Rank Professor of Athletic Training and Coordinator of Clinical Education

Frostburg State University, Department of Kinesiology and Recreation, seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track, open-rank Professor of Athletic Training position and to serve as the Coordinator of Clinical Education (CCE) for the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program. This is a full-time, 10-month faculty position with teaching, service, and professional development responsibilities. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications; University System of Maryland benefits package included.

Housed in the College of Education, Behavioral and Health Professions, the Department of Kinesiology and Recreation offers graduate and undergraduate degree programs including a Master of Science in Athletic Training, Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science, Master and Bachelor of Science in Recreation & Parks Management, and a minor in Coaching. The Department has state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories in the brand-new Education and Health Sciences Center which opened in the Fall of 2023.

Frostburg State University has a rich history of educating sports medicine professionals through its nationally recognized athletic training program over the past 47 years. The Master of Science in Athletic Training has recently been granted 10 years of continuing accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

Responsibilities

Teach didactic and clinical courses in the MSAT program, with potential options to teach in the undergraduate Exercise and Sport Science program. Advise MSAT students. Serve as the MSAT Coordinator of Clinical Education. Coordinate and develop curriculum in area of specialty/expertise. Devote efforts to scholarly activities/professional development and mentor student research. Provide service activities to the department, college, university, community, and/or profession. CCE responsibilities include organization and administration of clinical education aspects of the MSAT program, assist the Program Director in the annual program review and evaluation, curricula planning and development, fiscal and budgetary input as determined by the institution, and equitable distribution of educational opportunities at all clinical and classroom sites. Other academic duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate degree (or ABD) in sports medicine or related field from a regionally accredited university.
  • Contemporary expertise in the field of athletic training.
  • Previous clinical practice as an athletic trainer.
  • Previous teaching responsibilities within an athletic training education program.
  • Experience in mentoring student research.
  • Evidence of a successful applied research and scholarship agenda.
  • Certification and good standing with the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer.
  • Eligible for obtaining licensure or currently licensed in the state of Maryland as an athletic trainer.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of the appointment.

If selected candidate is ABD, they will be hired at the rank of Instructor, with the requirement that the candidate finish the doctoral degree within the first year of employment.

  • In addition to the minimum qualifications listed above, candidates with the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
  • BOC certification for five years or longer
  • Greater than three years of college-level teaching
  • Prior experience with the clinical supervision of athletic training students
  • Prior experience with CAATE accreditation process
  • Record of interprofessional collaboration in curriculum development and/or research.
  • History of extramural funding or potential for funding.
  • Demonstrated professional service at state, regional, national, and/or international levels.
