The Assistant Athletic Trainer provides comprehensive medical care, including the prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation of injuries for varsity student-athletes. They coordinate care with physicians and maintain accurate medical records while supporting the university's mission.
A bachelor's degree is required, with a master's degree and at least one year of relevant experience preferred. Candidates must be able to lift up to 100 pounds and work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
Provide athletic training services in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries sustained by varsity student-athletes. Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in administering comprehensive health care services for student-athletes, including injury prevention programs, treatment protocols, and rehabilitation plans. Provide athletic training coverage for assigned practices, competitions, and team activities, including injury evaluation, immediate care, and determining participation status in accordance with departmental protocols. Develop and oversee rehabilitation programs for injured student-athletes to support safe return to participation. Maintain accurate and confidential medical documentation and records related to athletic injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress. Coordinate referrals and follow-up care with team physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers. Monitor and assist with insurance claims related to student-athlete injuries as needed. Assist with the operation of the Athletic Training Room, including inventory management, ordering supplies, and supporting the athletic training budget process. Support and promote the University’s mission while contributing to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes. Perform other related duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of one year of relevant athletic training or sports medicine experience preferred. Ability to read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, and medical documentation standards related to athletic training and student-athlete care. Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills. Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, coaches, physicians, and university personnel. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as required by athletic schedules. Ability to travel with teams and remain out of town for extended periods as necessary.
