About the role

This full-time role involves teaching, supervising, and evaluating family medicine resident physicians, providing direct patient care, and handling education-related administrative duties, including delivering psychological evaluation and treatment services. Essential duties include designing and implementing behavioral sciences curriculum, teaching core topics, and coordinating resident experiences in community settings.

Hiring Range - $33.50 - 37.75\hour

Behavioral Health Faculty General Description This full-time position includes teaching, supervising, and evaluating family medicine resident physicians; providing direct patient care in the clinic; and completing assigned education-related administrative responsibilities. The role also involves delivering psychological evaluation and treatment services.

Behavioral Health Faculty Essential Duties Design, implement, evaluate, and revise behavioral sciences curriculum ensuring all ACGME requirements for resident education in this area are met.

Teach residents core behavioral health topics through didactics and workshops.

Collaborate with faculty physicians, resident physicians, nursing staff and care coordinators on the psychosocial aspects of patient care.

Coordinate resident experiences in community-based behavioral health settings.

Integrate social risk factors, health equity, and population behavioral health into residency training.

Provide evidence-based behavioral health services within the family medicine clinic both through direct in-person patient care and through telehealth as appropriate.

Provide real-time and video supervision and feedback of residents in clinic.

Evaluate resident competency in behavioral health milestones.

Assist as needed to ensure implementation of the education and training objectives of the Residency curriculum and quality assurance for behavioral health services relating to the Residency Program. (This is a shared responsibility with the Program Director.) Assist with quality assurance and quality improvement process in the clinic.

Design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive resident wellness program aligned with ACGME requirements.

Collaborate with Program Director to assess systemic contributors to distress.

Promote a culture of psychological safety and normalize help-seeking behaviors.

Provide crisis assessments and intervention for residents including suicide risk assessments and safety planning.

Participate in after-hours crisis consultation as defined by program needs.

Develop and maintain protocols for behavioral health emergencies within the clinic and residency.

Work collaboratively with the clinical team to promote continuity of patient care.

Assists program director and faculty with resident evaluations, faculty development activities, and other projects as they arise.

Attend various required program events, including but not limited to Graduation and Call Back Party.

Participate in Faculty, Res/Faculty, and Noon Conference and committee meetings as assigned/appointed.

Participate in University of Kansas School of Medicine sponsored activities periodically, including annual KUSM-W Family Medicine department Faculty Colloquium.

Teach and act as a role model for residents, medical students, staff, and other students.

Evaluate resident performance and advise Program Director on decisions regarding resident progression.

Participate in recruitment and selection of each year’s new resident class.

Perform educational administrative duties as assigned.

Engage in scholarly activity as defined by the ACGME.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Behavioral Health Faculty Skills Required Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, and the public.

Enthusiasm for working as a member of a team in a rapidly changing environment.

Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and regulations.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Excellent customer service skills and ability to effectively and respectfully interact with unsatisfied patients and coworkers.

Behavioral Health Faculty Education and Experience Master’s degree in psychology or other behavioral science related to health education required, doctoral degree in psychology or other behavioral science area related to health education preferred; At least three years post-degree clinical experience required; Must have and maintain CPR certification; Current Kansas License as Licensed Psychologist (LC), Licensed Clinical Psychotherapists (LCP), Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Workers (LSCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapists (LCMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC); or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC); Ability to relate well with residents, patients and other healthcare personnel; Willingness to educate residents, students, patients, other healthcare personnel, and the community;

Requirements

A Master's degree in psychology or a related behavioral science is required, though a doctoral degree is preferred, along with at least three years of post-degree clinical experience. Candidates must maintain CPR certification and hold a current Kansas license as a Psychologist, Clinical Psychotherapist, Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Professional Counselor.
