Job description
Sacred Heart School in Washington DC is hiring a long-term substitute teacher for the current school year. The long-term substitute will be needed from March 30th - June 12th. This position serves as a critical instructional role in the operation of the school. - Principle Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions*)
- Keep and maintain accurate and timely grading records for each student and sharing.
- Communicate academic concerns and successes with parents on a regular basis.
- Closely monitor student progress and partner with parents and STAT to make sure concerns are addressed in a timely and systematic fashion.
- Plan and execute standards-based math lessons and instruction that is differentiated, data-driven, and engaging for students.
- Incorporate Catholic teachings throughout the curriculum
- Organize and maintain a clean, safe and inviting classroom environment where students are encouraged and expected to participate in the learning.
- Participate and facilitate vertical and horizontal curriculum planning sessions as outlined in the teacher’s respective schedule.
- Send routine updates to parents including but not limited to upcoming projects and field trips, classroom experiences, curriculum, etc.
- Establish and maintain classroom routines and expectations with students to ensure a successful academic year.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior necessary to achieve a functional learning environment.
- Support the mission and vision of the School Leadership Team.
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings and professional development sessions.
- Supervise – including providing consistent feedback to – instructional aides and academic volunteers (CUA pre-service teachers, DC Reads tutors, etc.)
- Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays of learning, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, students-at- work, etc.
- Translate math lesson plans into learning experience and plans effectively so as to utilize available time for instruction.
