This is a part-time, temporary position for a Group Fitness Instructor (General Associate). Hours are flexible and on a need and availability basis.
As a Group Fitness Instructor (General Associate) within our Campus Recreation program, your primary role is to guide and inspire participants through engaging and enjoyable group workouts. You will demonstrate an advanced understanding of body awareness, human anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology. Your expertise will be utilized to create innovative, effective, and safe class plans and playlists. Utilizing effective communication techniques, you will provide clear verbal, visual, and kinesthetic cues to ensure participants understand and execute exercises correctly.
Moreover, you will motivate and empower participants to monitor their intensity levels, minimize the risk of injury, and successfully complete their workouts. Your dedication to delivering excellent customer service will foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment, enabling participants to achieve their personal fitness goals.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and Instruct: Conduct fitness classes in various exercise formats, catering to a diverse group of individuals with different fitness levels and abilities.
- Deliver engaging and high-quality content, ensuring participants' safety throughout the classes.
- Member Interaction: Be approachable and available to communicate with members before and after class, addressing any questions or concerns they may have.
- Studio Management: Maintain clean and organized studios, ensuring that equipment is returned to its proper storage location after each class.
- Promptly report any broken or malfunctioning equipment to the director for necessary repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of class attendance to track participation.
- Substitute and Assist:
- Arrange for substitute instructors in case of your absence from class and assist in substituting other classes when needed.
- Certification Maintenance:
- Stay updated and maintain current fitness certifications, ensuring compliance with any continuing education requirements.
- Timely Communication:
- Respond to requests from the coordinator or director in a timely and professional manner, addressing any inquiries or tasks promptly.
- Routine Development:
- Demonstrate the ability to create routines with appropriate music and choreography, providing participants with a dynamic and enjoyable fitness experience.
- Injury Management:
- Possess the knowledge and proficiency to handle any injuries that may occur during classes, providing prompt and appropriate assistance to participants in need.
Required
Minimum Qualifications
- Solid Foundation of Knowledge:
- Candidates must possess a comprehensive understanding of safe movement techniques, instructional methodologies, and practical skills related to group fitness instruction.
- Candidates should hold at least one of the following certifications:
- ACE Group Fitness Instructor
- AFAA CGFI (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America Certified Group Fitness Instructor)
- ISSA Group Fitness Instructor (International Sports Sciences Association Group Fitness Instructor)
Preferred Qualifications
Specialty Certifications
Candidates who possess additional certifications in specific fitness disciplines such as Cycling, Yoga, Zumba, etc., are highly desirable.
National Accreditation
In addition to the mentioned certifications, candidates may be considered if they hold any other nationally accredited certification approved by the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness. The specific requirements for approval will be determined by the Assistant Director.
