The teacher must be a born-again Christian with spiritual maturity in academic and leadership abilities that will enable him/her to teach God’s truth. The ability to communicate well with various types of people, handle confidential information appropriately, maintain a courteous, professional, and respectful attitude and integrity in all situations are pre-requisites.

General Description of

Duties and Responsibilities

JCS is seeking an inspiring Spanish Teacher to join our team. The Spanish Teacher's responsibilities include teaching grades 9th-12th (including Spanish I and II), preparing lessons, and providing developmentally appropriate and standards-based instruction.

To be successful as a Spanish Teacher, one should develop students to be competent language and culture learners. We seek the best fit candidate for our community. Teachers are expected to assist with various duties to ensure safety and supervision of students.

The Spanish Teacher should be able to encourage community and cultural awareness among students through a biblical worldview guided by the understanding that as image bearers of a creative and loving God, we should glorify and praise Him by being in community with others.

Essential Job Requirements

Attend after school divisional meetings, all-school meetings, and/or parent conferences as scheduled.

JCS “Plus One” principle - JCS expects all faculty members to be involved as either sponsors of or participants in at least one co-curricular, athletic, or student life activity outside of the classroom.

Be fluent, have a strong knowledge of Spanish grammar and vocabulary, and have training in second language instruction.

Plan lessons to meet grade level standards within the framework of world language learning.

Interpretive Listening

understand and interpret information, concepts, and ideas orally from a variety of culturally authentic sources on a variety of topics in the target language.

Interpretive Reading

understand and interpret information, concepts, and ideas in writing from a variety of culturally authentic sources on a variety of topics in the target language.

Interpersonal Communication

engage in conversations and exchange information, concepts, and ideas orally and in writing with a variety of speakers or readers on a variety of topics in a culturally appropriate context in the target language.

Presentational Speaking

present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners on a variety of topics in a culturally appropriate context in the target language.

Presentational Writing

present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of readers on a variety of topics in a culturally appropriate context in the target language.

Culture

use the target language to gain knowledge and demonstrate understanding of the relationship among practices, products, and perspectives of cultures other than his/her own.

Connections

acquire, reinforce, and further his/her knowledge of other disciplines through the target language.

Comparisons

develop insight into the nature of the target language and culture by comparing his/her own language(s) and cultures to others.

Communities

use the target language both within and beyond the school setting to investigate and improve his/her world beyond his/her immediate surroundings for personal growth and enrichment.

Works collaboratively with colleagues in various curricular areas and divisions.

Assigning and grading projects.

Recording and reporting on students' progress.

Ensuring that the classroom is clean after each lesson.

Qualifications

Spiritual: Must have a clear testimony of personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior

Education

Required

Bachelor’s Degree in education or Spanish, a teaching certificate or credential or equivalent successful experience teaching in classroom settings

Preferred: Valid teacher’s certification from FLDOE
