About the role

The Occupational Therapist will provide individualized treatment to children aged 2-3 with developmental disabilities, designing and implementing treatment programs based on assessments. This role also involves collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and supervising paraprofessional staff.

At the McCarton Foundation, every day is a chance to change a child’s future. We’re seeking a compassionate and dedicated Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide services to children with developmental disabilities aged 2–3 years. Reporting to the Occupational Therapy Supervisor, you will design and implement individualized treatment programs, supervise paraprofessional staff, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in a supportive, dynamic environment.

What You’ll Do • Direct Care

Provide individualized occupational therapy treatment to children aged 2–3 with developmental disabilities.

Assessment and

Planning: Review physician referrals and medical records; design and implement treatment programs; document goals and progress.

Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate treatment effectiveness, adjusting interventions to achieve optimal outcomes.

Collaboration: Work closely with Speech, ABA, and Physical Therapists to deliver integrated, child-centered programming.

IFSP

Development: Participate in developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Family Service Plans.

Paraprofessional

Guidance &

Training: Mentor, supervise, and support paraprofessional staff in implementing therapeutic activities, modeling best practices, and maintaining high-quality care.

What We’re Looking For • License

NYS Occupational Therapist Licensure required.

Education: Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.

Experience: Minimum 1 years of combined experience working with children, which may include:

Direct experience in pediatric occupational therapy OR

Related experience in early childhood education, special education, speech/physical therapy, or other child development disciplines.

At least some hands-on experience (internships, clinical placements, or work experience) with children with developmental disabilities and/or autism.

Prior experience guiding, teaching, or mentoring paraprofessional staff is strongly preferred.

Knowledge: Advanced OT principles; pediatric evidence-based practices; Early Intervention and IFSP/IEP regulations; child health and safety procedures, including CPR, first aid, and emergency response protocols.

Skills: Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with children, families, and interdisciplinary teams. Ability to design, evaluate, and adapt treatment plans. Leadership and mentoring of paraprofessional staff. Proficiency in data collection, documentation, and electronic health record

Languages: Fluency in English is essential. Working knowledge of Spanish is an asset.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift/carry children (30–40 lbs) and support physical activities. Ability to walk, stand, or sit for up to 8 hours.

Our McCarton Integrated Model combines speech and language therapy, fine and gross motor therapy, sensory integration therapy, socialization with peers, developmental play skills, and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy.

As with all positions at the McCarton Bronx Center all employees are required to pass a health and background check as mandated by the Bureaus of Child Care and Early Intervention. This includes a health form documenting vaccinations and background checks through the Department of Investigation and the Central Clearance Unit
