Atlanta, GA 30319SUMMARY The Long-Term Substitute Assistant Preschool Teacher in the Early Learning Center is hired by, and reports to, the Director of ELC. This position will provide full-time coverage while the teacher of record is on parental leave from August to October 2026 SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY This position is responsible for the welfare, education, safety, and general well-being of all children assigned to the position holder’s care. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Cooperate with licensing staff and other appropriate agencies in maintaining compliance with requirements and in providing a high quality of care. Maintain all records as required by the ELC and BFTS. Share in the responsibility of maintaining a clean and safe environment, including upkeep of equipment and supplies and general cleanliness of the room and playground. Obtain the required training hours annually to meet BFTS requirements. Greet children and parents warmly and with enthusiasm each morning and assure that each child is gradually assisted to become a part of the group upon arrival. Provide opportunities and activities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children. Supervise the children at all times to ensure safety. Provide positive guidelines such as redirecting, positive language, and positive reinforcement, and interact with children in a way that conveys respect and nurturing. Use a variety of teaching techniques, including modeling, observing, and questioning. Knowledge in curriculum, such as Reggio Emilia, is desirable Assist the lead teacher in planning a developmentally appropriate child-centered curriculum for the age group. Assist the lead teacher in the preparation of materials for use during the lessons/day. Assist the lead teacher in providing and planning opportunities and activities inspired by that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the development levels of the children. Conduct ongoing informal assessments of the children. Attend promptly to children’s personal hygiene needs. Prepare meals as directed, help with all clean up, assist children with eating if necessary, and assist at nap time. Develop rapport with children, parents, and co-workers. Work with parents to promote understanding of their child’s growth and development. Maintain good communication with parents on a daily basis through the use of daily sheets, notes, or verbally. Attend staff meetings, parent orientations, and other meetings as scheduled by the ELC Director. Maintain appropriate communication with the Director as to parental, child, or teacher concerns. Participate in the performance evaluation process. Keep all children’s information confidential. Work with center staff to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Adhere to all school policies and procedures. Follow the class schedule, which includes staff responsibilities. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director
