About the Role

Queens Community House is seeking a dedicated Youth Advocate to support students at Queens Satellite High School for Opportunity. The Youth Advocate will provide academic, social, and emotional support, helping students overcome challenges and achieve success.

This role involves building strong relationships with students, families, school staff, and community partners to ensure each student receives individualized and effective support. The ideal candidate is compassionate, resourceful, and committed to youth development and post-secondary success.

  • Key responsibilities
  • Provide individualized academic, personal, and social support to students
  • Develop and implement personalized support plans with students and families
  • Facilitate workshops on conflict resolution, self-advocacy, and emotional well-being
  • Serve as a liaison between students, families, and community resources
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records
  • Conduct attendance outreach and home/worksite visits as needed
  • Support students with college and career planning, including FAFSA and CUNY applications
  • Organize post-secondary field trips and the Annual College & Career Expo
  • Collaborate with DOE staff and school personnel to enhance student support
  • Follow up with graduates and provide transition support

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field
  • Experience working with youth in a mentoring, counseling, or advocacy capacity
  • Strong understanding of challenges faced by at-risk youth

  • Bilingual proficiency
  • Experience in program development and community outreach
