- Range: $18.00 - $22.00 HourlyOVERVIEW Iona University is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Lifeguard to support daily aquatic operations at the Hynes Athletic Center Pool. This role plays a critical part in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-managed aquatic environment by actively monitoring pool activity, enforcing safety standards, and responding effectively to emergencies. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Aquatic Safety & Monitoring Actively monitor pool activity to ensure patron safety and rule compliance Maintain continuous situational awareness and proactively identify potential risks Policy Enforcement & Education Enforce pool rules consistently, professionally, and respectfully Educate patrons on safe swimming practices and appropriate pool conduct Emergency Response Respond quickly and effectively to aquatic emergencies, including rescues Administer CPR, First Aid, and AED support as required Follow established Emergency Action Plans and safety protocols Facility & Equipment Oversight Conduct routine safety checks of pool facilities and equipment Maintain a clean, organized, and obstruction-free pool environment Documentation & Team Engagement Accurately document incidents, injuries, and maintenance concerns Participate in required trainings, certifications, and staff meetings Customer Experience Provide courteous assistance to patrons and address questions or concerns Support an inclusive, welcoming environment for all pool users QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS Required Current Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross, YMCA, or equivalent) CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid Certification Preferred Prior lifeguarding experience, especially in a collegiate or community setting Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification Core Skills Strong swimming ability and physical stamina Excellent observation, judgment, and decision-making skills Ability to remain calm and responsive in high-pressure situations Clear communication and strong interpersonal skills Work Environment, Physical Requirements & Schedule Ability to work in warm, humid, and occasionally noisy environments Extended periods of standing, walking, and swimming Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds Flexible availability required, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on facility needs How to Apply Interested candidates should submit a resume and proof of current certifications to kwinston@iona.edu or apply through the online application portal.
