Job description

Passaic County Community College is seeking an Instructional Designer that works with College faculty to develop learning objects, media and assessments for use in both distance learning and face-to-face classes, which are designed to meet and enrich the learning objectives of College courses. The Instructional Designer will also work with distance learning faculty to instruct and assist them in implementing the tools for design and instruction contained in the Learning Management System used by the College, as well as instructing faculty to employ quality standards of online pedagogy in online classes. This position reports to the Dean for Distance Education, the Learning Center and Business Administration Program.

This is an full-time, administrative position.

Example of Duties

  • Support faculty in developing and integrating learning objects, including media and lecture capture, and in designing course content and assessments aligned with course-level learning objectives for both distance learning courses and traditional face-to-face classes.
  • Support faculty by providing training and ongoing assistance for distance learning modalities, including the effective use of instructional software and technologies, and by promoting industry-recognized standards and best practices in online course design and pedagogy.
  • Provide help desk support to online students experiencing technical issues.
  • Implement new hardware and software to enhance or improve the infrastructure of the Distance Education program at the College.
  • Collaborate with the Information Technology Department and the Media Services Department, when appropriate, in the Integration of hardware and software into the classroom and the online learning environment.
  • Ensure that the College is compliant with any accreditation requirements for online course programs with relation to online class and technology and pedagogy.
  • Perform other related duties when needed.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Instructional Technology Design or related program; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of current professional instructional design experience in higher education
  • Experience teaching online courses at the college or university level preferred.

Compensation

Salary is determined by a variety of criteria, including but not limited to, previous relevant experience, education level, and certifications. The starting salary for this position is $70,000.
