Substitute Teachers or Aides will use the target language (Spanish, Chinese, or Japanese) throughout the day while engaging with Pre-K through Kindergarten students using creative, play-based inquiry teaching methods. Candidates must commit to the mission of the International School of Portland and demonstrate the values of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program while guest teaching.
Native level fluency in one of the three languages (Spanish, or Chinese, or Japanese) At least 1 year experience working with preschool aged children A Bachelor's degree in Education or Early Childhood/Elementary Education is preferred Knowledge and understanding of Inquiry Based-Primary Years Program pedagogy is a plus but not necessary Experience teaching or working in an immersion program Experience working in a multi-cultural environment Experience using technology in the classroom Candidates offered a position must be able to pass a background check Candidates offered a position must provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. No visa sponsorships available Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Teaching/Education or equivalent experience Basic understanding of spoken and written English Demonstrated proficiency in the target language along with demonstrated ability to teach the target language At least 6 months -1 year of professional teaching experience in a language immersion classroom or something similar Already have or be able to obtain specific certifications and trainings
