  • Overview: The Spence School is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Physical Education teacher and Athletics Coach to begin in the Fall of 2026. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate physical education curriculum that promotes physical fitness, skill development, teamwork and lifelong wellness, and for coaching at least one Middle and/or Upper School team.

Responsibilities

Plan, develop and implement engaging physical education lessons aligned with Shape America National Standards and curriculum goals. Teach a variety of units including upper school elective offerings such as outdoor cycling, inline skating, yoga, pilates and other lifetime fitness activities. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs, interests and abilities of diverse learning styles and abilities. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and instructional practices. Assess student performance using a variety of formative and summative methods. Integrate technology to enhance learning outcomes and engagement. Coach one or more varsity and/or middle-school level team, preferably lacrosse, softball or soccer QualificationsQualifications: Demonstrates pedagogical skill and an appreciation for the science and the craft of teaching Finds joy in working with children and in school life Demonstrates cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences Approaches work with energy, kindness, maturity, curiosity, flexibility, and a sense of humor Regards collaboration as an essential component of professional growth and values working on a team Enjoys a commitment that extends beyond the classroom, including contributions to the larger school community Has sustained teaching experience with middle and upper school students Ability to design standards-based instruction that supports motor skill development, fitness, responsible behavior and lifelong physical activity.
