Assistant Elementary Age Teacher (Grades K-5) Odyssey Day School – Wakefield, MA Odyssey Day School, a private independent school in Wakefield, MA, is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Elementary Age Teacher to support our kindergarten through fifth-grade classrooms. The Assistant Teacher will work closely with lead teachers to foster a dynamic, engaging, and supportive learning environment that aligns with our mission of nurturing the whole child.

Position Summary

The Assistant Elementary Age Teacher plays a vital supportive role in the daily operation of the classroom. This role involves assisting with instruction, supervising students, supporting classroom management, and helping to prepare materials. The ideal candidate is energetic, collaborative, and passionate about the developmental and academic milestones of elementary-aged students. Key Responsibilities Instructional Support: Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce core academic concepts in reading, writing, and mathematics as directed by the lead teacher. Assist in setting up and facilitating hands-on, experiential learning activities and projects. Support the integration of technology into the curriculum. Classroom Management and Supervision: Assist the lead teacher in maintaining a positive, structured, and orderly classroom environment. Supervise students during non-instructional times, including recess, lunch, and transitions between classes. Support the implementation of school-wide behavioral guidelines and classroom rules. Preparation and Organization: Prepare and organize instructional materials, print resources, and supplies for daily lessons and long-term projects. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of classroom learning centers and common areas. Assist with classroom decoration and the display of student work. Collaboration and Communication: Communicate regularly and effectively with the lead teacher regarding student observations, concerns, and academic progress. Support student well-being and social-emotional growth, serving as an approachable and supportive presence. Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities as required.

Qualifications

Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience working with children in the elementary age range (Grades K-5) in a school, tutoring, or camp setting. Demonstrated ability to be flexible, proactive, and a strong collaborator within a teaching team. A genuine enthusiasm for the developmental stage of elementary students.

Preferred

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field. Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Paraprofessional or Educator certification. Familiarity with project-based learning or independent school environments.
