The Group Exercise Instructor provides quality instruction and supervision to members by teaching safe and functionally challenging classes that promote total fitness development and support well-being. How this role contributes to the Y’s mission: As a Y Group Exercise Instructor, you’ll be an important part of a mission-driven, charitable organization that helps children, adults, families, and communities achieve more in all aspects of life. The Group Exercise Instructor provides quality instruction and supervision to Y members and participants by teaching safe and functionally challenging classes that promote total fitness development and support a greater sense of well-being. You’ll help more people stay active and connected to positive community life by providing a fun, welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that promotes group interaction, exercise and a sense of belonging. As a Group Exercise Instructor, you’ll contribute to the Y and to the broader community we serve by creating experiences that help people feel a greater sense of health and well-being, purpose, acceptance and belonging. This work is right for you if you have:

A love of fitness and people

A desire to help & encourage others to have fun with fitness

A nationally recognized accredited group exercise certification required (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NETA preferred) or standalone or specialty certification (Les Mills, Zumba, etc.)

The ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to children, parents/guardians, members, and other Y associates All Y associates agree to abide by The Code of Conduct with Youth that sets clear expectations for associates and volunteers to ensure a safe and respectful environment for young people. It emphasizes treating youth with respect and fairness, avoiding inappropriate physical or verbal interactions, and adhering to established standards of affection. The policy strictly prohibits any form of abuse, bullying, or harassment and mandates the reporting of suspected mistreatment. Additionally, associates and volunteers must complete training on child abuse prevention and comply with legal reporting requirements to safeguard youth.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a love of fitness and people, along with a desire to encourage others to have fun with fitness. A nationally recognized accredited group exercise certification (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, NETA preferred) or a specialty certification (Les Mills, Zumba, etc.) is required, as is the ability to communicate clearly and listen effectively.
