About the role

The School Nurse provides daily medical care and early intervention to ensure students are healthy and ready to learn. They manage health plans for chronic conditions, deliver health education, and maintain school-wide safety and immunization records.

Independence Preparatory Academy is a new, academically challenging, highly structured, and joyful K-8 school in Fairfield, AL.

We are on a mission to equip all students with the academic tenacity and strength of character necessary to choose their destiny and create a fulfilling life.

In August 2025, Independence Preparatory Academy opened its doors to 60 students in kindergarten through second grade.

We will continue to grow until we reach a total capacity of 485 students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

To achieve our vision, we seek a School Nurse who is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with an Associate’s degree or higher in nursing, at least 1+ years of experience in pediatric or school-based nursing, and a demonstrated ability to support the health and academic success of students with diverse medical and developmental needs.

The salary range for this position is between $44,764 and $71,169.

New hires can expect to be brought into the organization at a salary near the lower end of the range, depending on relevant experience, certification status, and internal equity.

Compensation is based on our salary scales and is not negotiable.

Fosters a safe and nurturing environment by managing health plans for students with chronic conditions (like asthma or allergies) and responding to medical needs with calm, compassionate care.

Teaches lifelong healthy habits by delivering age-appropriate health education that empowers children to care for their bodies and understand their emotions.

Supports families as partners in health by keeping lines of communication open, guiding parents through next steps when their child is sick, and reinforcing shared responsibility for student wellness.

Strengthens school-wide safety systems by maintaining immunization records, leading emergency health drills, and ensuring every child has access to care in alignment with school policies.

Requirements

Candidates must be a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with at least an Associate's degree in nursing. A minimum of one year of experience in pediatric or school-based nursing is required.
