About the role

The teacher is responsible for creating and implementing weekly lesson plans and differentiating instruction to meet individual student needs. They must also administer assessments to measure growth and maintain accurate records in accordance with law and policy.

Our Teacher- General Special Education will be responsible for teaching students in the private day school setting in Harrisonburg, VA. We are looking for motivated individuals that desire to effect positive change in young people’s lives.   • Minimum education, training, reqirements and prerequisites
  • Virginia Special Education Teaching License or (license eligible).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education with an Endorsement in Special Education preferred.
  • Ability to work year-round with built-in breaks.
  • Safety-Care Certification (Training provided).
  • Must have a valid Virginia Drivers’ License, proof of insurance, satisfactory Driving Record (less than 5 demerit points).
  • Monday-Friday: 8AM-4PM.
  • Year-round program.
  • DRIVING SPECIFIC (The following list may or may not be all inclusive at time of posting):
  • Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years:
  • Reckless driving, including speeding 20mph or more over the posted speed limit.
  • Driving under the influence/impaired/intoxicated or refusing a blood/breath test.
  • Manslaughter or negligent homicide.
  • Driving after being declared a habitual offender.
  • Driving on a suspended or revoked license
  • Driving a commercial motor vehicle while disqualified, under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of .04 or higher, refusing a blood/breath test, or violating an out-of-service order.
  • Injuring a person while racing - felony.
  • Failure to stop at the scene of a crash where there is injury, death, or property damage of $1000 or more.
  • Emergency vehicle violation - death.
  • Vehicular assault or willful stopping, impeding, or damaging a vehicle.
  • Blocking access to the service facility.
  • Attempting to elude police.
  • Operating an unsafe vehicle.
  • Vulnerable Road User – Death.
  • Must not have any of the following violations within the last 3 years:
  • Passing a stopped school bus.
  • Careless driving.
  • Three or more minor moving violations within the last three years.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and implement weekly lesson plans.
  • Administer formal and informal assessments to measure student growth and mastery and to evaluate and refine instruction.
  • Differentiate instruction effectively to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Identify students who are academically at risk and initiate effective intervention strategies.
  • Participate actively in professional development.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Attend and participate in Community School Committee and various Advisory Committee meetings.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Virginia Special Education Teaching License (or be eligible) and a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. A Bachelor's degree in Education with a Special Education endorsement is preferred.
