- Summary Functions as a member of the practice clinical care delivery team to provide selected clinical care to patients in the direction of an LPN, RN, or provider.
- Focuses on the needs and concerns of the breastfeeding mother and infant(s).
- Advocates for the breastfeeding family in preventing, recognizing, and resolving breastfeeding difficulties while promoting improved breastfeeding outcomes.
- Participates in the coordination of lactation follow-up office visits and education.
- Job Duties Functions as a member of the care delivery team to assist the provider and nurse as needed and directed.
- Acts as a resource to clinical staff for breastfeeding issues.
- Identifies actual or potential patient risks and communicates those risks to the licensed nurse or provider upon recognition.
- Completes vital signs on patients after completing the vital sign competency assessment.
- Gives phone advice and administers selected medications to patients after completion of required education and mentoring.
- Plans, implements, evaluates, and educates all levels of office personnel within pediatric specialty on lactation updates.
- Provides direct and indirect care for designated patients as appropriate and as assigned.
- Serves as a clinical expert and consultant in the care of the breastfeeding family.
- Records information in the patient's medical record, billing and other systems in a timely manner using approved formats.
- Communicates and documents consultations.
- Coordinates scheduling of diagnostic test(s), as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED 2 years Work in an office based medical practice. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to care for patients utilizing a developmental perspective. Demonstrates respect for the right of patients and their families. Demonstrates via role modeling and consultation, advanced knowledge in the care and education of the breastfeeding family. Listens effectively, recognizes, accepts constructive criticism, and is open to opposing points of view. Demonstrates flexibility and is able to initiate, accept, and adapt to changing priorities. Demonstrates knowledge of breastfeeding learning principles. Competency in managed care process and understanding of referrals, prior authorizations, and insurer requirements. BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association Upon Hire and IBCLC - International Board Certified Lactation Consultant - International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners Upon Hire Physical Demands Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
