- Provide instruction to students enrolled in English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) classes and/or Adult Basic Education (ABE)/ Spanish High School Equivalency (HSE) classes on an as-needed basis;
- Deliver prepared lesson plans and/or adapt existing curriculum to meet student needs during assigned shifts;
- Incorporate computer-based or online learning activities into instruction when applicable;
- Maintain basic documentation of student attendance and participation for assigned sessions;
- Administer informal assessments or support ongoing student evaluation as directed by program staff;
- Communicate relevant student progress, needs, or concerns to the Program Coordinator of designee;
- Refer students to internal support services as appropriate
- Coordinate with Program Coordinator and instructional team to ensure continuity of instruction;
- Participate in periodic check-ins as needed;
- Attend trainings and staff meetings as available and relevant to scheduled work hours;
- Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of per-diem work. COMPETENCIES
- Two years teaching experience in ESOL and/or ABE/HSE preferred;
- Experience delivering or adapting lesson plans in a classroom setting;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to create an engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environment;
- Flexibility and responsiveness in a dynamic classroom setting;
- Willing to go above and beyond program mandates for the benefit of the students;
- Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities;
- Have a demonstrated commitment to supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and bias (e.g. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice involved persons, etc.);
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred or required – dependent upon program needs.
