Position Summary
The Day Camp Junior Counselor will monitor, lead, and control a group of children. This position will work with children, fellow workers, and staff to provide a safe and meaningful summer day camp experience in a Christian environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist all field trips (unless medically unable, will be required to participate with the campers).
- Provide support to counselors responsible for a small group of youth ages 5-14 on site and on field trips.
- Be aware of and follow all safety precautions and procedures. This includes never being solely responsible for your group.
- Work with program staff to plan and execute daily activities as needed.
- Responsible for the welfare of campers.
- Work with the appropriate staff in solving problems between campers.
- Inform Day Camp Director of any staff or camper problems.
- Work with the day camp director and program staff in scheduling activities for the campers.
- Encourage camper participation in activities, including musical practices, Bible class, rec class, arts & crafts, and any other activities in a constructive manner.
- Administration of emergency first aid as needed and recording of such treatment, with proper documentation, to supervising staff.
- Always remain with your assigned group of children, unless another staff member has relieved you for any necessary reason.
- Attend all staff and training meetings unless directed otherwise by the Day Camp Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Must be at least 16 years old
Education/Experience
- Previous experience working with children a plus
- Previous experience supervising camper desired
- Willingness to work as part of the ministry team with other staff members or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of arts & crafts a plus
- Music knowledge a plus
Computer Skills
• Basic computer skills required
Certificates and Licenses
- Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
- Current First Aid / CPR certification, or ability to be certified within 30 days
