About the role

The Special Education Teacher will create and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to students with diverse needs and ability levels. They are responsible for classroom management, conducting educational testing, and participating in IEP and eligibility meetings.

Norris Academy is a residential treatment facility located in Andersonville, TN approximately 30 minutes north of Knoxville.

We serve youth ages 6 to 17 who are diagnosed with mental health and/or Autism Spectrum/neuro-developmental disorders. Our 63-bed facility serves youth from Tennessee as well as several other states. Our team is fully committed to offering a broad spectrum of services and options that care for our patients and families alike.

The Job The Special Education Teacher will create and implement effective and engaging lesson plans in the classroom to students with special needs on variety of ability levels.

Snapshot of Daily Duties Create and implement lesson plans.

Teach to a variety of students on different ability and grade levels.

Provide effective classroom management skills.

Attend educational meetings (IEP, Eligibility, professional development, teacher meeting, ect.).

Work in a collaborative environment with all staff at Norris Academy.

Represent the educational department in a professional manner.

Complete educational testing on students.

Evaluate students’ educational needs and plan curriculum accordingly.

Process a high volume of paperwork and reporting efficiently and effectively.

The Must Haves Must have a current Tennessee Teaching License.

Priority consideration will be given to candidates with a SPED certification.

Bachelor’s degree in Education.

Preferred experience working in Special Education.

Must be able to meet the unique educational needs of all students.

Must have effective classroom management skills and demonstrate an enthusiasm and competence for working with special needs students.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a current Tennessee Teaching License and a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Priority is given to those with SPED certification and prior experience in special education settings.
