About the role

Pay for this role is about 33% above the New York median for classroom teacher roles.

The teacher is responsible for daily instructional planning, preparation, and the use of data to drive student academic and behavioral success. They must foster a positive classroom culture while actively implementing feedback to improve instructional practice.

Teacher Vision Pharos Academy Charter School is looking for a teacher who is an “uber” kid person.

The ideal candidate absolutely loves to teach, train, and push students both academically as well as behaviorally.

There is an understanding that messing up and failure is a natural and welcomed part of the learning process.

In this teacher’s classroom, all students are treated with dignity at all times and students are taught non-academic skills like hard work, collaboration, kindness, and receiving feedback.

In addition to being a kid person, the ideal candidate has a penchant for planning, preparation, using data, and being pushed to excellence.

This teacher understands that what happens before students enter the classroom (intellectual preparation) drives what happens in the classroom and ultimately determines student achievement and success levels.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education or History related field of study. Strong love and commitment to helping students work through mistakes while building pro-social and academic skills. Experience working with elementary/middle school-aged children in an academic or youth development setting. Experienced teachers must show a proven track record of achievement in the classroom.

Teacher Performance Outcomes At minimum, 75% of all students meet grade level standards in core content classes as measured by the internal assessments and state examinations, if applicable At minimum, 33% of all students will exceed proficiency (level 4) in core content classes as measured by the internal assessments and state examinations, if applicable. At minimum, 90% of students will show growth in content area measured by the internal assessment. At minimum, 75% of students will meet grade level non-academic standards/goals as measured by internal assessments and performance tasks. *Pharos Academy offers a performance-based salary structure. Compensation is earned based on measurable performance benchmarks, rather than tenure. The salary range for this role is $80,000–$115,000, with the opportunity to earn up to $145,000 over time once Mastery is reached. Starting salary for new or emerging teachers is $80,000. Candidates with 4+ years of experience at a high-performing K–12 school may be eligible for a higher starting salary based on sustained performance and demonstrated results related to our tiered benchmarks. Full-Time Teacher Pay Range $80,000—$110,000 USD

Requirements

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in education or a history-related field. Experience working with elementary or middle school-aged children in an academic or youth development setting is required.
