Job description
The Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the Head Athletic Trainer in overseeing daily operations of the Athletic Training Department while providing comprehensive prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and referral services for athletically related injuries. This role supervises the athletic training room’s daily functions, ensures safe and effective medical coverage for intercollegiate practices and competitions, and maintains accurate medical documentation. The Assistant Athletic Trainer also contributes to student development through supervision of student athletic trainers and may serve as a preceptor for athletic training students. Sport coverage may include Women’s Lacrosse and Women’s Field Hockey (or other assigned teams) and may require travel based on departmental scheduling and staffing needs, while ensuring compliance with NCAA, Conference, and College regulations.
Job Duties
- Supervise the daily operation of the athletic training room to include developing necessary procedures, schedules and ensure proper use and maintenance of the athletic training equipment.
- Coordinate the evaluation, trust, rehabilitation and referral of athletically injured student athletes for physician care: ensure proper evaluation to determine whether students are physically and mentally able to practice and/or compete in intercollegiate programs.
- Ensure adequate coverage of scheduled practices and games for the various sports teams by the athletic training room staff; Preventive care, evaluation and development of rehabilitation plans for assigned sports teams. Candidate must possess strong rehabilitation skills for post-operative and return to play. Travel with teams as assigned by the head athletic trainer which is determined by the athletic department schedule and staffing.

- Coverage possibilities include but not limited to: Women's Lacrosse and Women's Field Hockey. Sporting assignment will be determined based on the candidate's strengths and prior experience.
- Supervision of student athletic trainers and the opportunity to serve as a preceptor for athletic training students.
- Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Injury recognition, evaluation ,treatment, rehab and appropriate physician referral, taping, bracing, and communications with other staff members, coaches, administration where appropriate, and concise documentation of medical records.
- Ensure compliance with NCAA, Conference, and College rules and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- NATABOC certification.
- Bachelor’s degree from CAAHEP accredited athletic training program.
- Licensed by the State of North Carolina.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certified.
- Master's Degree and three to five years of collegiate experience preferred.
