Job description

About

  • Located in the heart of Mexican town in Southwest Detroit, Detroit Cristo Rey High School (DCRHS) is a diverse learning community dedicated to educating young people from limited economic backgrounds to become men and women of faith, purpose, and service.
  • Co-sponsored by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Congregation of St.
  • Basil, our core educational beliefs center around gospel values, justice, diversity, community, integrated learning, right relationships, and care for Creation.
  • We offer a rigorous, personalized Catholic college-preparatory curriculum, combined with a corporate work-study experience, that prepares students for success in college and beyond.
  • DCRHS is one of 38 high schools nationwide affiliated with the Cristo Rey Network, which began more than 25 years ago with a proven education-and-work-study model.
  • Working at DCRHS is different from working in a traditional high school environment.
  • As an independent private school, students choose to attend DCRHS rather than being assigned to it.
  • Our faculty and staff are the backbone of the school, and building relationships is fundamental to each student's success.
  • The effectiveness of our program is reflected in our 100% college acceptance rate since our inaugural graduating class in 2012.
  • Our goal is for all our students to graduate from both high school and college and to become future leaders in our churches, institutions, businesses, nonprofits, and the broader community.

General Description

  • Detroit Cristo Rey faculty serve as role models for our students, both as teachers and as adults.
  • All employees are expected to dress and behave professionally at all times, especially when in front of students and communicating with parents.
  • Full-time teaching assignments include teaching six classes daily, serving on one duty period (such as study hall, lunch duty, or subbing for one period), and using one assigned preparation period.
  • Part-time teaching assignments range from 1 to 4 48-minute classes.
  • A duty period may be required depending on the number of courses taught.
  • The Teacher will collaborate with teachers of the same subject to ensure alignment and continuity of material, as well as with all other teachers to share best practices in techniques, technology use, and consistency of message regarding student expectations and success.
