Job description

Position: Course Developer

Position Status: Non-Exempt, 12 month full-time position

Work Hours: 8 am to 5 pm, may include some evening hours and some planned Saturdays

Reports to: Dean of Instruction

Location: Online Education Division (Orchard Park, NY):

This is not a virtual position. A hybrid work schedule may become available based on job tenure and performance.

Summary

The Course Developer is responsible for assisting in the development, creation, and redesign of new online and blended master courses. The Course Developer works collaboratively with the Instructional Technologists, Curriculum Managers (CMs), Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and other departments in order to meet rigor standards, student learning outcomes, and student usability standards. This position is best suited to someone who prefers a fast-paced environment, adapts to change, and seeks to actively develop new skills and grow in understanding of learning and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Instructional Technologists, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and Curriculum Managers in developing course content, including lectures, assessments, project directions, and activities for new courses
  • Revise existing course content via course content software based on feedback from faculty, academics committees, CMs, and Instructional Technologists
  • Responsible for second-level support of learning management system (LMS) content, date restrictions, master course and section creation, assessments/test banks, course revisions, etc.
  • Research scholarly sources from Virtual Library, Internet, and publisher resources to support learning outcomes in credit-bearing college courses. Ensure adherence to copyright and intellectual property guidelines.
  • Assist Instructional Technologists with support of web technologies to enrich the asynchronous learning classroom
  • Ensures that quality standards and design are maintained during design, development, and revision of all courses

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Bachelor/Master’s degree in Distance Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology/Instructional Technology, Education or related field from a regionally accredited institution preferred.
  • 1-2 years of professional experience in higher education preferred
  • Knowledge of distance education course development and best practices preferred.
  • Understanding of Bloom’s Taxonomy and best practices in authentic assessment and grading rubrics for higher education levels preferred
  • Some experience/understanding of LMS. Experience in distance education preferred.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills, as well as the ability to manage detail and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Internet savvy with multiple browsers, ability to troubleshoot, and familiar with Microsoft Office products

Salary

$56,500 per year ($27.16 per hour).

This position is eligible for overtime.
