- POSITION OVERVIEW As our School Nurse, you'll develop, manage, and coordinate school health services programs while maintaining compliance with all regulations, and lead our school health team, which includes full-time nursing assistants.
- This vital role includes operating our school clinic, educating staff and families, supervising UW-Madison nursing students, and serving as the bridge between school, home, and community health professionals.
- One City also has a skilled medical doctor who serves as our Medical Advisor to support our school health team.
- WHAT YOU'LL DO Lead Comprehensive Health Services: Develop policies, procedures, and standards for school health programs ensuring federal, state, and local compliance Manage program resources efficiently and prepare health reports for leadership and health departments Provide first aid care and medically prescribed services to students and staff Maintain security of health supplies and ensure proper clinic operations Conduct health screenings, appraisals, and follow-up evaluations as required Educate and Collaborate: Provide staff development on health-related topics for school personnel and volunteers Orient staff on medical procedures for supporting medically involved students in classrooms Serve as health resource person and liaison between school, families, and community agencies Coordinate presentations by health professionals on pertinent care topics Supervise University of Wisconsin-Madison nursing students during community education practicums Champion Student Wellness: Correspond with parents regarding children's health needs and provide guidance Conduct home visits when appropriate to support student health outcomes Record immunizations, health findings, and maintain comprehensive health data Follow established procedures for suspected cases of child abuse and neglect Negotiate professional and medical services essential to school health programs WHAT YOU BRING Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited nursing program with Wisconsin RN license Minimum 2 years nursing experience in community health, pediatrics, emergency care, or a physician's office Active Basic Life Support BLS CPR/AED certification for Healthcare Providers Valid Wisconsin Driver's License (or ability to obtain before start date) Considerable knowledge of medical disorders, treatments, and child development Leadership Qualities: Strong commitment to One City's mission and working with diverse populations Working knowledge of public health problems and treatment coordination procedures Understanding of federal, state, and local laws affecting school health services Excellent judgment, communication, and creative problem-solving skills Physical ability to lift students and stand for extended periods as needed EXCEPTIONAL BENEFITS & COMPENSATION Full-Time Package: Competitive salary reflecting education and experience Extended breaks (equivalent to 3 months off annually) 9 PTO days plus holidays, spring break, and winter break Professional development funding and opportunities Part-Time Package: Competitive salary reflecting education and experience Holidays, spring break, and winter break off with limited PTO Professional development funding and opportunities Unique Staff Benefits: On-campus childcare center with subsidized tuition for staff Home ownership support through Own-It Program ($19,000 down payment grants available) Collaboration with UW-Madison nursing program and research partnerships ABOUT ONE CITY SCHOOLS Our Mission: To seed a new model of public education ensuring children are on track to succeed from birth through high school graduation.
