Job description

Part Time, Monday - Friday 2pm -6pm

$16.50 per hour - $16.50 per hour

Valid New York State Driver’s License in good standing

Summary of duties

The Respite Instructor provides care for a class of children. Prepares activities and materials and maintains order and cleanliness in the environment. Supports children with feedings, field trips, arrival and departure, behavior support and other activities.

Reporting relationship: Reports to Respite Supervisor

  • Essential duties & responsibilities
  • Support a mutually respectful, safe and supportive environment that is inclusive of every student.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and be responsive to the social, cultural, linguistic, family and community factors that influence students in the room.
  • Provide appropriate supervision as written in students safeguards of IEP to the students at all times while receiving the respite service, including arrival and dismissal.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of monthly activity calendars.
  • Assists students in social and recreational activities.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment. Addresses immediate health, safety, and cleanliness concerns upon discovery.
  • Provide appropriate physical care of assigned students to maintain their cleanliness, safety and comfort. This would include tasks such as direct assistance with washing, dressing, toileting and feeding.
  • Creates meaningful communication by using a range of effective communication strategies and skills to establish a collaborative relationship with the student.
  • Exhibits professional behavior by demonstrating the following qualities: professional demeanor, attention to punctuality and attendance policies, reliability, flexibility, and pleasantness.

Education & training

Preferred

One year pertinent experience in health and human service related field and experience working with individuals with disabilities.

Minimum

High school diploma or equivalent.
