  • Shift: DayJunior counselors, with the guidance of the Lead Counselor, provide a safe, quality, fun-filled summer camp experience to children. Help teach the core values of the YMCA of caring, honesty, inclusion, respect and responsibility. Develop your own skills of creativity, communication, teamwork and problem solving. Enjoy the summer being a role model to youth. Supervise and interact with a group of children, along with co-counselors; provide intentional interactions with campers; actively participate with campers at all times; encourage campers to try new activities; utilize behavior modification techniques to keep campers safe and happy. Complete mandatory staff trainings (in person and online) & Staff Skills Verification sheet prior to camp. Participate in camp meetings, functions, orientation, family nights, and carnival. Arrive each day on time dressed appropriately (sneakers and socks), prepared for pool, and prepared to work (lunch, water bottle, sunscreen). Must adhere to all program and CDC standards. Be a part of the welcoming team greeting campers and ensuring they are ready for a fun-filled day. Maintain positive relations and provide support to co-workers; assist specialists in all activities with campers, i.e. arts and crafts, sports, ropes, etc.; actively participate in each of the camp areas, role modeling teamwork and sportsmanship. Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth. Complete required abuse risk management training. Follow mandated abuse reporting procedures, including reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Qualifications At least 16 years of age Experience working with children Enjoys and is physically able to work outdoors CPR, 1st Aid, Epi-pen, & AED certified prior to the start of camp
