About the role

The position serves as a core faculty member and Director of Clinical Education for the MAT program, overseeing student clinical progression and site evaluations. Additionally, the role involves teaching athletic training courses, supporting sport leadership internships, and contributing to departmental assessment and curriculum improvement.

This 9-month clinical resident contract position is available August 17,2026, with summer administration and teaching responsibilities for additional pay.

Responsibilities include directing clinical education experiences, teaching athletic training courses, and providing university and professional service.

This position serves as a core faculty member in the MAT program and fulfills the role of Director of Clinical Education (DCE).

This position will also serve a support role with the Masters in Sport Leadership internships and teaching undergraduate course(s) in their area of expertise within the department.

This position reports to the Chair of the Kinesiology and Rehabilitative Sciences Department and works in collaboration with the Program Director of the MAT program.

The clinical faculty member will work collaboratively with other program faculty, preceptors, administrators, and external athletic training and health care constituencies. Candidates who are innovative and value a collaborative, dynamic, and comprehensive approach to instruction and athletic training practice are encouraged to apply.

This is a face-to-face position at The University of Tulsa, Tulsa, OK.

Clinical faculty appointments are 1-year, renewable contracts upon successful annual review. Multi-year contracts are possible after the 3rd year of continuation with the continued renewal based on performance, departmental needs.

  • Essential Functions (Responsibilities)
  • Oversee student clinical progression
  • Coordinates student assignment to athletic training clinical experiences and supplemental clinical experiences
  • Clinical site evaluations
  • Student evaluations
  • Regular communication with preceptors, including professional development as it relates to their role as a preceptor
  • Preceptor selection and evaluation
  • Participate in departmental teaching meetings, training, and professional development activities related to pedagogy.
  • Contribute to assessment efforts and continuous improvement of undergraduate curricula.
  • Perform other instructional or academic service duties as assigned by the department.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong communication skills and the ability to explain scientific concepts clearly to diverse student populations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned master’s degree in athletic training or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years of experience as a BOC-certified athletic trainer. Previous clinical practice experience in athletic training
  • Experience with administration or teaching in a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accredited athletic training program (professional or post-professional).
  • Experience in curriculum development and evaluation
  • Knowledge of assessment practices
  • Certification as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) and in good standing with the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers.
  • Have a National Provider Identification (NPI) number.
  • Possess Oklahoma state licensure as an Athletic Trainer at time of employment (or eligible for licensure).
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR & AED.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A terminal degree in Athletic Training and/or field from an accredited college or university.
  • Evidence of professional development that results in contemporary expertise in athletic training.
  • Experience in Athletic Training Program Administration, such as Program Director or Coordinator of Clinical Education.
  • Experience and familiarity with CAATE standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Contemporary expertise in critical incident management.
  • Effective administrative and communication skills.
  • Previous teaching experience as instructor of record or teaching assistant at the undergraduate level.
  • Familiarity with active learning strategies, laboratory safety instruction, or course management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods while working at a computer.

  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and via email.
  • Occasional movement within the office and museum environment for meetings and collaboration.

Candidates must hold a master's degree in athletic training or a related field and possess at least three years of experience as a BOC-certified athletic trainer. Required credentials include current ATC certification, an NPI number, and Oklahoma state licensure or eligibility for such.
