The faculty member is responsible for developing and implementing physical education curriculum for preschool and lower school students while managing classroom activities and student life programs. They will also organize school-wide events, maintain equipment, and collaborate with staff to support student growth and global education competencies.
Candidates must hold at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant content area or elementary education, with a master's degree preferred. A minimum of three years of teaching experience in an early childhood program is required.
The Preschool/Lower School Teacher as a faculty member is directly accountable to the Preschool & Lower School Division Head. S(he) works with the Division Head, Dean of Students, students and parents to ensure that the spirit and the life of the school reflect the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education. S(he): ● Understands, embraces and implements the school's mission and philosophy as written in the Goals and Criteria; participates in the Christ-centered life of the school; and models the school's philosophy in working with students, parents, colleagues and administration. ● Works with the Division Head to execute responsibilities relating to the academic program: curriculum development and implementation, classroom management, student evaluation, grade reporting and parent communication, and to execute responsibilities as outlined by the Division Head/Dean of Students and Department Chairs, which contribute to smooth department functioning. ● Works with the Division Head to execute responsibilities relating to student life programs, student discipline and facility use. ● Works with the counselors to aid students in achieving the maximum development and growth, both within and beyond the classroom, achieved through observation of students' behavior and needs, consultation with the counselors and referrals, when indicated. ● Attends and participates in the following: chapels, liturgical functions, retreats, faculty/department/in-service meetings, assemblies, parent assemblies, conferences and other school functions, as requested. ● Maintains professional currency by yearly participation in the professional development program (which includes opportunities for attendance at conferences, workshops and educational meetings, and for advanced degree coursework) and by regular reading of educational journals and discipline-related materials. ● Works with the Division Head to secure substitutes in the event of illness or other emergencies. ● Agrees to fulfill the terms of the contract of employment. 8.24
● Implement current best practices using the updated online SPARK program for grades 1-4 ● Stay current with best practices by attending professional development when available and by exploring P.E. sites, such as P.E. Central, YouTube, and Pinterest ● Stay current with monthly Pangrazi webinars on classroom management and with new games using technology ● Develop and plan lessons for Prek and K by using guidelines in SPARK ● Develop leadership skills by appointing a leader of the day in classes for grades 1-4 ● Organize teams for intramurals for grades 1-4, post schedules for all tournaments, and hold games during morning recesses ● Support global education by designing games to meet this goal; example: Olympics ● Register Sacred Heart and organize the classes to support Kids Heart Challenge and that of Goal 3: help those who need me. (American Heart Association) ● Register Sacred Heart and organize the WWSA - Sport Stacking event ● Devise and practice dances in P.E. for the annual Conge celebration; supervise dances during Conge ● Organize and practice for the annual Faculty vs. 4th grade kickball game ● Organize Field Day and practice games for the end-of-the-year Field Day culminating event for Preschool and Lower School ● Develop specific playground rules in order to create a safe environment for the children to enjoy the playground equipment during recess ● Order and monitor the recess equipment and replace when necessary ● Order and keep accurate inventory of the P.E. equipment necessary for a successful P.E. program for preschool - 4th grade students ● Update content in Enrichment Hub monthly to showcase teaching and learning ● Collaborate, plan for, and facilitate bi-monthly Third and Fourth Grade Club Period ● Work collaboratively with classroom and enrichment teachers to integrate Preschool and Lower School Global Education Competencies into curriculum ● Assist with Conference Care during Parent Teacher Conferences
