Job Description

Job Title: Special Education Teacher Schedule: 40 hrs/week min. Job Type: Full-Time FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Principal Pay: $71,000, starting (DOE); Salary Scale Special: Requires weekend work, nights and early mornings, as needed

  • **Salary is contingent upon a teacher having a full credential in the specified subject-matter. The starting base for a teacher without a full credential starts at $64,446/year *

Ingenium Schools currently operates several charter schools, serving students throughout Los Angeles.

Position Summary

The Special Education Teacher / Resource Specialist will work with Special Education designated students, both in and out of the general education classroom. Ingenium Schools uses an inclusion model for special education.

REPRESENTATIVE ESSENTIAL DUTIES Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide instruction and services for students with disabilities who have been identified in an Individualized Education Program and are assigned to regular classrooms Coordinate the referral, assessment and placement procedures for students referred to the Resource Specialist Program Participate in academic testing Write Individualized Education Plans for students Coordinate special education services with the regular school programs Schedule and attend IEP meetings, as needed Timely record IEP minutes, as needed and required Collaborate with regular classroom teachers to provide accommodations and modifications as written on student IEPs Monitor student’s progress, coordinate the review and revision of their individualized education programs, and refer students to the individualized education program team Oversee SPED aides provision of RSP minutes and create their weekly schedule Meet with SPED aides on a regular basis to ensure compliance and provide training Provide information and assistance to students and to their parents Provide consultation, resource information, and educational material to student’s parents, and to general education teachers Coordinate inservice sessions and workshops for teachers and parents Perform other duties as assigned by the principal and/or director of student services Attend mandatory training as required by the position Continually improve: proactively look for ways to improve skills and processes Maintain positive attitude Maintain regular attendance

WORKING CONDITIONS ENVIRONMENT The majority of the time is spent indoors in a classroom; some activities are outdoors PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. Ability to run 50 yards Must be able to sit for extended periods of time Ability to communicate and comprehend orally and in writing Near and far vision Selective attention: ability to concentrate on a task without being distracted Time sharing: ability to shift back and forth between two or more activities or sources of information Memorization: ability to remember information such as words, numbers, and procedures Problem Sensitivity: ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong Deductive and inductive reasoning skills Ability to plan and deliver effective instruction to students Ability to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time Some kneeling, squatting, bending, required Dexterity of hands to demonstrate activities may be required Mathematical reasoning Ability to use a computer, mouse, and monitor Ability to use computer software and timely respond to emails
