SPORT: Varsity football

Position: Defensive coordinator

Reports to: Athletic Director/HS Principal

The Varsity Football Defensive Coordinator at Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School for the SY 2026-2027 fall athletic season is a vital component of our athletic program. This role will oversee the total operation of the defensive unit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Program Leadership

  • Design and implement the overall defensive philosophy, playbook, and terminology.
  • Game
  • Planning: Lead the scouting process, analyze opponent film (Hudl), and develop weekly game plans and call sheets.
  • Staff
  • Coordination: Oversee defensive position coaches (DL, LB, DB) to ensure all drills align with the overarching team strategy.
  • Training &
  • Mentorship: Lead practice sessions focused on skill development, stamina, and technique; provide constructive feedback via film review; and foster an environment of academic accountability and sportsmanship.
  • Compliance: Adhere strictly to all MIAA regulations, as well as the AKF student, employee, and athletic handbooks.
  • Operations: Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment, uniforms, and first-aid supplies.
  • Culture: Model AKF Character virtues at all times and instill a competitive, teamwork-oriented spirit in all athletes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Varsity Head Coach and the Athletic Director regarding all aspects of the program.
