POSITION SPECIFICS Penn State Scranton is seeking a highly motivated, student-centered individual to join the Academic Advising Center as a full-time academic advisor. Applicants should be motivated to engage students in developing skills to explore and build meaningful academic goals for their experience at Penn State Scranton. Candidates should understand the role of academic advising in promoting student success, building supportive communities for students, and the role higher education can play in addressing complex issues.
- In this position, you will: Serve as the assigned academic adviser to primarily first-or second-year undergraduate students where you develop relationships, coach exploratory engagement, and monitor academic progress. Develop expertise in interpreting University policies, procedures, and curricular requirements. Play an essential role in the planning and implementation of New Student Orientation. Participate in campus and University-wide committees, projects, and initiatives. Assist with advising programs and workshops, new student registration, change of campus student programs, and various recruitment events. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a desire to work with students in a high-volume center are necessities for success in this position. The successful candidate will have a strong background in working with high school or college-aged students, with a proven track record and commitment to serving multiple student populations.
